Hi. I've been making photographs for many years, since I first picked up a camera aged 16 and processed the Black & White film in my makeshift darkroom.
My early professional career was in the software industry, but I returned to college to formally study photography at the renowned Arts Institute at Bournemouth, graduating with a Distinction.
I am quite a generalist, and have worked with film and digital on different formats of camera, both in the studio and on location. I tend to favour staged shoots with interesting lighting set-ups. I also love working with models and stylists. When the image comes together in the viewfinder, it's a wonderful experience, a combination of planning of the shoot, conceptualisation of the image, and improvisation on the day, as well as the magic of interaction between subject and photographer.
One of the trends of modern photography is the huge impact of electronic technology. I like to think that a photographer's skill is all about understanding and controlling light and understanding visual aesthetics. Both picture taker and digital retoucher use the same skills but in different ways. My only regret is that we become so inculcated with images of white eyes and airbrushed, flawless skin, that we fail to acknowledge true beauty, which most often is not perfect in that limited sense of the word.
